3rd annual benefit for Humane Society

GHENT - The third annual benefit for the Columbia Greene Humane Society/SPCA will be held on Saturday, May 12.

This years event is being held at the Dairy Queen on Route 66.

Cat and dog items will be sold, as well as some great gifts for Mother's Day.

There will also be a animal food collection table to support the CGHS/SPCA food bank.

Fire damages Hudson animal shelter

HUDSON - Animal Kind, a 'free roaming' cat shelter was damaged last night as a result of water from firefighting attempts in an apartment upstairs.

The shelter is currently evacuating over 150 cats to a new location. They have suffered extensive losses, and are in need of carriers, litter, and food.

Besides finding cats new homes, Animal Kind offers free spay/neuter services and emergency veterinary care.

Missing Dog in West Stockbridge

Missing Dog in West Stockbridge

Moose, a dog owned by a West Stockbridge family has been missing for two months. He escaped the yard with another dog who has since returned.

There was a sighting in Adams. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Vreeland Family, 413-232-4626.

Documentary on Puppy Mills to be screened

MENANDS - On Monday, April 30, a special showing of the documentary film "Madonna of the Mills" will be held in the Legislative Office Building.

The film follows a woman named Laura as she save thousands of dogs from puppy mills in Pennsylvania where the dogs spend their entire lives in tiny cages without any human contact.

The film screening is free and open to the public. After the screening, attendees will have an opportunity to learn about pending legislation in New York.

The screening is at 11:30a in room 711-A.

Art exhibit to benefit Columbia-Greene Humane Society

There will be an Animal Art exhibit to benefit the Columbia-Greene Humane Society.

The Columbia County Council on the Arts will host the Animal Art exhibit beginning Saturday, Jan. 21 and running through Saturday, March 10 at the CCCA Gallery located at 209 Warren Street in Hudson.

The opening reception will be on Jan. 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. and a portion of the proceeds of art sold will go to the CGHS/SPCA.

Chatham restaurant to host annual post-holiday party for Humane Society

The Blue Plate Restaurant in Chatham will be hosting their 9th Annual Post-Holiday Party to benefit the Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA on Saturday, Jan. 7.

In the last five years, this event has raised more than $40,000 for CGHS/SPCA, which serves around 1,000 unwanted, abandoned, lost or abused animals every year.

All the food is donated by the staff and friends of the Blue Plate.

The cost is $25 per person, more if you can afford it or less if you can’t. The food is buffet style, and will be accompanied by music from local bands, Belly Dancers, and a cash bar. In addition, there will be a silent auction and raffles. The benefit runs from 5 p.m. until “whenever.”

“This year we’re continuing our tradition of throwing a great party to benefit a really great cause. The Humane Society really needs new facilities, so please come out and have a fun evening with us!” said Marcia Curran and Colleen Carpenter-Rice, co-organizers of the event in a statement.
