Farm-To-Table benefit dinner to be held

On Saturday, August 4th at 5 p.m., Katchkie Farm, located at 34 Fischer Road Extension in Kinderhook, will be hosting Farm-To-Table, a benefit dinner for The Sylvia Center.

The Sylvia Center is a non-profit organization that encourages young people to discover good nutrition through hands-on experiences on the farm and in the kitchen. The Center uses a 60-acre organic farm as its classroom.

The dinner will feature food the following local businesses:

  • Café Perche
  • Café Omi
  • Red Barn
  • The Chatham Brewery
  • Mexican Radio
  • Verdigris
  • The Chocolate Bar

Tickets are $125 each and are a tax deductible.

Hudson River Day to take place July 21

The fourth annual Hudson River Day will take place on Saturday, July 21 all along the Hudson River from New York City to Albany.

Community events will take place with a celebration of five themes of the 2010-14 Hudson River Estuary Action Agenda: Clean water, habitat, river access, climate change and scenery.

A new feature this year is the Great Hudson River Fish Count. According to a statement, the Hudson and its watershed are home to more than 200 species of fish, including several species that migrate up the river and its tributaries each spring to spawn.

'I Love My Park Because' photo contest begins

'I Love My Park Because' photo contest begins

On Thursday, Parks & Trails New York announced the launch of the “I Love My Park Because” photo contest that will run through Friday, August 31.

Park lovers are encouraged to take a photo of themselves in any public park in New York State holding a sign describing or showing why they love their park. Photo entries should be sent by August 31, 2012 to ilovemypark@ptny.org along with contact information and the name of the park.

Prizes include camping gear from REI and winners will be announced in September.

Susan G. Komen to hold "Party in Pink"

SARATOGA - On Thursday, August 16, the Northeastern New York Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the cure will be holding an event to raise funds for research.

The event will be held at Vapor Nightclub at the Saratoga Casino and Raceway from 7-9p.m.

Vapor Nightclub has agreed to macth ticket sales up to $1,000.

Tickets are $5, VIP Reception tickets are $45.

'Quill: The Life of Guide Dog' comes to Proctors July 9

'Quill: The Life of Guide Dog' comes to Proctors July 9

“Quill: The Life of a Guide Dog” will show at Proctors theater July 9 through July 11.

The movie is based on a true story of a yellow Labrador Retriever that was born with a mark on his side resembling a bird spreading its wings.

The movie follows Quill’s story from his litter to his selection as a guide dog after his first birthday. After guide dog school, Quill is paired with a man reluctant to rely on him but as their relationship grows so does their friendship.

Brew and Blues Fest at Proctors

SCHENECTADY - On Saturday, July 14, the second annual Proctors on Tap Brews & Blues will be held.

Bringing together some of the regions best craft brews with food from local eateries and blues from Folding Sky and Bobby Vanness. Participants cvan choose from over 75 stouts, porters, and IPAs. Several local restaurants will also be on hand to provide samplings of their hearty pub fare.

Participants must be 21-years-old to attend. Tickets are $25 in advance, $10 for designated drivers.

The event will run from 5-8p.m.

Bruegger's Bagels hosts fundraiser

Beginning on Monday, July 2 through Wednesday, July 4, Bruegger’s Bagels will be hosting a three-day fundraiser to support Homes For Our Troops.

Homes For Our Troops is a nonprofit organization that helps severely injured servicemen and women and their families build handicap-accessible new homes through donations of money, building materials and professional labor.

A portion of the proceeds from each purchase of Bruegger’s Big Bagel Bundle, which includes 13 bagels and two tubs of Bruegger’s Cream Cheese, will go to Homes For Our Troops during those three days.

Additionally, Bruegger’s will also be selling its special Red, White, and Blue Bagels on Tuesday, July 3 and Wednesday, July 4.
